With Winter still in full spring, I try to spend as much time in the snow as possible. One thing I have never thought of seeing were frozen waterfalls. Rainbow falls was on the list but after missing a few morning alarms, I decided to take advantage of the good weather and head over to Snoqualmie Pass. Franklin Falls is a commonly frequented place that is accessible by a short one mile hike. The route to the trailhead was straightforward, but once we hit the forest road, the snow started to thicken. We eventually hit a section where a bunch of cars were parking right before the snowy road. I guess the other vehicles didn't want to go off roading, but we went straight for the challenge. It was so much fun navigating through the snowy trenches and grooves. We eventually came across a section covered with fallen trees. We reversed our way back a tad and parked the car.

The main objective of this day trip was to see the falls and have a picnic in the snow. We stopped at Trader Joe's on the way to the falls and picked up some sandwich wraps, blueberries, chips & dip, and flowers for the finishing touch. We knew this hike wouldn't be challenging, so we didn't mind carrying all our necessities and soaking in the views. Once we got to the trailhead, we were instantly in love with the scenery. The path was covered in packed snow which allowed Mac and us to glide our way through the forest. We walked alongside the river and eventually came across a plethora of cabins spread out along the trail. It was such a surprise and made me fall in love with Washington just a tad more. An environment covered in snow with small cozy cabins and snowflakes falling from the sky is so unique in this world. Once we got to the falls we setup the picnic blanket, poured two glasses of wine, and got the food prepared. We took a few pictures and then munched down on our feast. We were so proud of our setup, it was a fantastic idea and our execution was phenomenal. This winter picnic was one of the most amazing moments in my life and will hopefully become a trend on my trips. If you are ever looking for a way to spend your day, grab some of your favorite things, hike out to a beautiful spot, and soak in the world. A few hours later we arrived back in Seattle to have dinner at The Hudson-we had brisket and chicken and biscuits meals. I can't wait for my next outing, I am always looking for new ways to enhance my life.
