We planned to drive from Bellingham to Seaside, OR in one night. We left Bellingham at 7pm which urged us to sleep at the Longview, WA Walmart at 11pm. It had been a long day for us, but didn't want to rush the driving. Sleeping at Walmart is always an unusual experience. This time we grabbed some necessities before sleep but came to realize we were in an industrial part of town. Not only were random cars driving up to us in the middle of the night, but we were across the street from a logging mill that worked throughout the night. We were frightened for our lives but were able to sleep in till 8:30am the next morning. And of course, we started our morning off with a subway breakfast to get us ready for our next day.
First on our list of sights to see, was a ship wreck located on Oregon's Coast. It was over an hour drive through Oregon's brown landscape, but we made it. It was very cool to see the rusty remains of the ship, and the gloomy weather kept tourists away. After the wreck, we headed south towards Seaside where we booked a room at a remolded Best Western on the beach. We were craving a coffee break and surprisingly drove past a Dutch Bros! We had seen TV shows for this groovy business and always wanted to go, we felt like we were in a dream. We asked for suggestions at the window and ended up getting iced cocomos and snicker flavored beverages topped with whipped cream. It was a tasty pit stop and cool experience. We were able to check into our room early which allowed us to drop off our things and keep exploring. Our room was amazing; equipped with a wall bed, fireplace, kitchenette, balcony, and front row view of the beach. We then quickly rushed down to Canon beach to play on the scenic beach. It ended up turning into a sunny day where we didn't need to worry about rain damaging any gear. After a peaceful trip to the beach, we headed back to our room to take advantage of the shower and then played on the swings at the beach. It was a joyful and carefree time that resulted in us eating a massive pizza at Seaside Brewing Co. We walked along the promenade from our hotel into town to explore the shops and nightlife. We ended up at a cool shop with unique shirts where we had a 20 minute conversation about life, laws, and happiness with the business owner. It was such a cool experience to have with a stranger and one that will not be forgotten. But after a filling dinner, we walked along some riverside boardwalks and made our way back.
The next morning, all we wanted to do was relax: so we ordered room service and enjoyed a late check out. Nothing better than a room on the coast with french toast delivered. Not to mention, Dylan initiated a shopping spree at the local outlet stores-and just as a reminder, there is no sales tax in Oregon! We bought matching jackets from Helly Hanson, and both got ourselves some shirts and new shoes. I could never have complained with that idea of his. With only a few more hours of daylight left, we made one last stop at Cape Disappointment to spot a lighthouse. I have a weird fetish for lighthouses, and here I got just the smallest taste. The weather was absolutely terrible with rain, wind, and waves. Although it kept us moving, it was hard to photograph and it was getting dark. From the lighthouse, we had over a four hour drive back home. The weather became worst and made us very alert on the road. Although we arrived hours later, the car ride only felt like five minutes with Dylan as company.
