For Mother's Day weekend my mom, dad, mac, and I drove down to Portland to visit my younger brother, Kellen. It had been almost a year since I have visted Portland, but the sun was shining and I was excited to see Kellen's school, University of Portland.
After a three hour drive and a stop for McDonald's breakfast we arrived downtown and met my brother at his 10 story urban dorm. The streets were packed and the majority of people around were holding beautiful bouquets of flowers and flats of strawberries. This led our family to check out the adjacent Saturday Farmer's market. With fresh fruit, salamis, and wines on display it was hard for us to leave empty handed. The myth that Portland is known for their food trucks is TRUE! There are a plethora of food trucks scattered all throught the city. This was a visual shock because there are actually multiple food trucks on every block. We went to a food truck "block" and tried the Korean BBQ, Mexican, and Carribean themed trucks. The food was absolutley delicious and it was great to sit out in the sun.
On Mother's day we spent a good amount of time around the city. We waited in line for the famous Voodoo donuts, walked around the esteemed rose gardens, and went to my brother's favorite ice cream place, Salt and Straw. We all shared olive oil, lavender, and salted caramel pints of ice cream.
We had a great time exploring this urban city and I am bound to go back. My brother will finish up his first year in June, so proud of him!
